Cherokee: Europricey

by David Zatz on

Jeep Cherokee (very small)You can once again buy a Jeep Cherokee in Spain, but it’ll cost you. The base model Longitude (equivalent to America’s Latitude) starts at 36,250 euros — close to $50,000 — and that doesn’t even include all wheel drive, which boosts the price to around $57,000.

The American four-cylinder gasoline engine isn’t available in Spain and many other European markets, its place taken by a much more thrifty four-cylinder, 2.0-liter Fiat MultiJet diesel of high repute. This engine, with front wheel drive, is capable of 5.3 liters per 100 km economy — around 42 miles per gallon.

The V6 is still available, but only on TrailHawk models, which start at a budget-busting 54,000 euros (over $74,000). The top of the line V6 Limited prices out above TrailHawk in Spain.

So far, Jeep UK and Jeep France have not posted any information on Cherokee other than its imminent arrival. Land Rover UK lists the Freelander as starting at £23,705 ($38,900) and the Evoque at £29,200 (nearly $48,000), with a major leap up to the Discovery model.
