Brazil: making small Jeeps, importing big ones

FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne told an analyst today that there would be no Cherokee or Grand Cherokee production in Brazil, in the foreseeable future; smaller Jeeps will be produced locally, with all larger Jeeps imported from the United States.

Brazil is one of Fiat’s most important markets; the company has a large market share in the nation, and has substantial domestic production there. Brazil has actually had higher Fiat sales than Italy in recent years, and is a prime candidate for Jeep sales due to Fiat’s strong production and distribution networks.
