It’s not Jeepster after all

by David Zatz on

On Monday, Automotive News’ Larry Vellequette caught up with Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne and learned that the new subcompact Jeep would not, despite reports in Autoguide and on Allpar, be called Jeepster.

The news was not immediately picked up by other outlets, though IndianAutosBlog caught it in their Detroit Auto Show coverage.

Mr. Marchionne also called the Jeep Compass and Patriot “the weakest links” in the lineup. He did say that the new Jeep would help address that problem, indicating that the new vehicle will, as rumored, be sold in North America.  Different forms of the vehicle once known as Jeepster will be made in Brazil and Italy, according to other announcements, and it is likely that different powertrains will be used for India, Europe, and North America.
