Removable RamBox?

by David Zatz on

patent

The people who brought you the RamBox, a series of locking containers integrated into the sides of pickup beds, have applied for a patent on a slightly different take on the concept: the removable RamBox. Steven St. Laurent pointed us to this patent application, which points out that the “removable storage device” (or, as we call it, box).

This is not merely a box placed within the current RamBox setup, which would result in a very small usable area; instead, the cover includes an integrated latch, which presumably stops it from rattling or moving around, at the same time that it provides a measure of theft protection. The lock would be on the side — observers may notice that the sidewall is closer to the wheel than in the current RamBox — and would, when unlocked, either allow the owner to unlatch the box from its restraints, or to open the box and reach the latch.
