Upcoming ProMaster options, diesel

by David Zatz on

New options and accessories are being added to the Ram ProMaster vans. Buyers can now get a driver’s “suspension seat,” slush mats, side wall panelling, wood floors, and trailer wiring harnesses. Ironically, a winter front grille cover won’t be available until May.

Of more interest to thrifty buyers is the 3-liter, four-cylinder Fiat diesel, a commercial engine that should provide much better fuel economy than the gasoline V6, albeit with far less horsepower; while the vans are not publicly rated by the EPA, we were unofficially told that numbers in the “mid-to-high 20s” should be reasonable. The torque of this engine should be sufficient to give the ProMaster reasonable drivability, especially hooked up to the sole transmission choice, an automated manual. That engine is currently scheduled for May 2014 production, but might be bumped back. (Thanks, RamMan.)
