Chrysler to stay American

Automotive News noted that, while Fiat SpA will be part of the new Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV holding company, Chrysler Group LLC will remain a separate United States entity, according to statements by Sergio Marchionne at a recent shareholder meeting in Italy.

The reason, according to the industry magazine, is that mergers are relatively easy within the European Union, but more difficult between the United States and the E.U.

FCA shareholders’ meetings will likely take place in the Netherlands, with the board of directors possibly meeting within the United Kingdom, where the company holds its tax headquarters.

Chrysler will probably change to another legal form, such as a corporation, which would entail a minor name change.
