Minivans to get “kick doors”?

by David Zatz on

Reliable source oh2o wrote that the 2016 Chrysler Town & Country’s new sliding doors will have a foot activated opening system (like Ford’s “kick-activated” liftgate). This may explain part of the reasons for the door revisions shown in earlier patent filings. It’s possible that both the liftgate and the sliding doors can be “kick opened.”

The advantages of using one’s feet to open the doors may be apparent to anyone who has carried luggage, boxes, or children to a vehicle — one hand has to be free for either the fob or the handle. A foot switch would make it possible to open the doors without letting go of any packages. See our full 2016 minivans page
