Minor recalls: Vans, Durango, JGC, Cherokee

by David Zatz on

Chrysler has announced two minor recalls, neither of which appears to have caused any accidents or injuries.

First, Ram ProMaster vans may have poorly sealed electrical connections or components in the cabin which could be shorted by water. In a small number of cases, ProMasters were brought back to the dealer with blown fuses, prompting Chrysler to discover this issue and develop a fix; the parts will be inspected for signs of corrosion, and moisture-resistant sealant will be applied to all components. The recall affects around 20,000 vans, most of which have not yet been delivered to customers.  Customers will be notified, and there should be no appreciable delay since there are no new parts to send out.

Second, around 10,700 Dodge Durangos and Jeep Cherokees and Grand Cherokees (including SRTs) built between January 16 and April 17, 2014, need cruise control software upgrades. A routine internal quality audit discovered that, when cruise-control is engaged, the system may continue driver acceleration by one or two seconds after the driver releases the pedal. Brake application still cancels cruise control, and brake function is not compromised. There have been no reported accidents or complaints, and more than half of the vehicles were still in transit or at dealerships. Customers will be contacted when they may schedule service, “expected to be available soon.” Concerned customers should leave cruise control off in the meantime; other systems are unaffected.
Customers may call Chrysler Group’s Customer Assistance Center at 1-800-853-1403 if they have questions or concerns. The repairs or updates are free.
