Another Viper podium; a new Viper record

by Bill Cawthon on

The No. 93 team made it four podiums in a row, finishing third in the GT Lemans class at today’s Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at the Road America track in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.

True Fiat Chrysler Automobiles fans can’t be too upset; the race was won by a Ferrari, so it’s still all in the family, so to speak.

Jonathan Bomarito held on in a wild race marked by six full-cautions, coming in 1.663 seconds behind Pierre Kaffer, who piloted the No. 62 Ferrari 458 Italia to its first win of the season.

Marc Goossens brought the No. 91 Dodge Viper across the finish line 1.437 seconds behind Bomarito, finishing fourth.

On Lap 58, Goossens set a new race lap record of 2:05.267. The following lap, Bomarito posted the second-fastest lap of the race at 2:05.286, just 0.021 seconds slower than Goossens.

The third-place finish, combined with the sixth-place finish of the points-leading Corvette Team of Jan Magnussen and Antonio Garcia, leaves Bomarito and Wittmer just eight points out of first place in the 2014 IMSA/Tudor series.

Farnbacher and Goossens should take sole possession of third place as they trailed Bill Auberlen and Andy Priaulx by just two points coming into the event and the drivers of the No. 55 BMW Z4 GTE finished eighth.
