2015 200 stop-start… in 2015

by David Zatz on

Donlen reported that production of Chrysler 200s with stop-start systems will begin on January 5-12 2015, except for the LX and S FWD sedans, which will start up around a month later.

start-stop system

The system is a preliminary design, which will help shave fuel usage by cutting off the engine when it’s not needed, and the computer believes it will start up instantly when required. The system works by cutting the engine when the car stops, and restarting it when the driver releases the brake — avoiding the delay that would ensue if the engine was restarted when the driver hit the gas pedal. Drivers can shut the system off entirely, and it does not work when the engine is cold, the battery is low, or the computer senses stop-and-go traffic.
