China’s Import: Chery copies 200 styling

by David Zatz on

Chery Alpha and Chrysler 200

The styling of the Chrysler 200 is apparently so good that Chinese automaker Chery seems to have copied it for a concept car.

The 200 has been praised by some and panned by others; it has a well executed but conservative design, and deviates radically from the chrome-grilled 2014 200, 300, and Town & Country in both front fascia and its sleeker form.

Chery was chosen by Chrysler’s past owners to design and build a small car for Dodge, but plans fell through and Cerberus turned to Nissan instead, briefly. The planned Nissan hookup, which also would have included sales of V6 engines, never materialized.

David Zatz founded Allpar in 1998 (based on a site he had begun in 1993-94), after years of writing reviews for retail trades. He has been quoted by the New York Times, the Daily Telegraph, the Detroit News, and USA Today. Before making Allpar a full-time career, he was a consultant in organizational psychology.
