Journey, Renegade lead Chrysler growth in Europe

by Bill Cawthon on

We finally have detailed European October sales figures for Chrysler-badged vehicles in Europe, courtesy of Jato by way of Automotive News.

Total Chrysler brand/Chrysler-built sales were up 46.7% in October and were up 14.7% for the first ten months of 2014.

Dodge actually set the pace, courtesy of the Journey, sold as the Fiat Freemont in Europe. 1,663 Freemonts were sold in October, making it the best-selling Chrysler Group vehicle for the month. The Freemont is also the best-selling Chrysler-built vehicle in year-to-date sales.

The new Jeep Renegade came in second, outselling all other Jeep brand vehicles.  Sales of the Grand Cherokee and Compass dropped, but the shortfall was more than covered by the Renegade and Cherokee, giving Jeep a 74.7% boost in October.

Chrysler/Lancia sales fell, with a major plunge in sales of the Chrysler 300C/Lancia Thema (the Lancia brand isn’t sold in the UK) and a smaller drop in sales of the Chrysler/Lancia minivan.

Bill Cawthon grew up in the auto industry in the 1950s. His Dad worked for Chrysler and Bill spent a number of Saturdays down on the plant floor at Dodge Main in Hamtramck. Bill is also the U.S. market correspondent for, a British auto industry publication, and a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which has named the Jeep Grand Cherokee the “SUV of Texas” several times and named the Ram 1500 as the “Truck of Texas” two years running.

Bill has owned five Plymouths (including the only 1962 “Texan”), one Dodge and one Chrysler and is still trying to figure out how to justify a Wrangler. He also has owned at least one of every 1:87 scale model of a Chrysler product. You can reach him directly at (206) 888-7324 or by using the form.
