Renegade getting closer

by David Zatz on

The long-awaited Jeep Renegade, engineered in Auburn Hills, Turin, and Chennai, India, and the first Jeep to be built in Italy, has been loaded into the Chrysler dealer ordering system, according to one source. However, none of the models, options, or pricing has been loaded in yet.

Signs continue to point to the Renegade being available for first orders in January and showing up around March 2015. The car, equipped with a nine-speed automatic and 2.4 liter engine, is a bit smaller than the current Jeep Patriot, which it’s set to replace. Reports have the next-generation Compass retaining its “mini Grand Cherokee” styling, and essentially coming in on a smaller version of the KL Cherokee’s body, with four-cylinder options only.

Availability of both vehicles may be restricted by Chrysler’s ability to make or buy nine-speed automatic transmissions.
