Tire-label recall

by David Zatz on

A total of 667 five-passenger Dodge Journeys from model years 2014 and 2015 are being recalled, because they may have labels which may overstate the seating capacity and combined weight rating, which may result in the operator overloading the vehicle.

Five-passenger Journeys may have seven-passenger weight/occupancy stickers, overstating the gross vehicle weight by 300 pounds and implying that seven passengers can be seated. It affects VINs 3C4PDDAG3ET167694  through 3C4PDDAG7FT533982.

The recall was actually instigated by Chrysler’s internal investigation, which found that when the five-passenger model was created in the 2014 model year, the label was not changed. Few of the five-passenger Journeys appear to have been sold, and no incidents appear to have been reported.

Recall P70 involves having the dealer install the correct label, but these do not appear to be available yet. Concerned owners can call Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403, or temporarily use white-out to turn the 7 into a 5 and change the 1165 lb gross weight to 865 lb.
