The Italian Transport Ministry reports that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles registrations in Italy totaled 25,265 in December, up 1.4% from December 2013. Full-year total registrations rose 0.8% to 376,721 vehicles. (Note: Figures do not include Maserati or Ferrari.)

FCA’s growth lagged the overall Italian market’s 2.4% December increase and the 4.2% increase reported for the full year.

Chrysler brands lead the growth, up 403.9%, primarily due to a big increase in Jeep brand sales, powered by the new Renegade. In fact, Chrysler brand sales were the only ones that came in ahead of December 2013.

Chrysler brands posted a 94.3% increase in full-year registrations. The only other brand in the black was Fiat with a 0.8% boost.

FCA lost almost an entire percentage point of market share with all brands except for Chrysler’s trio giving up ground. Chrysler’s share rose 0.4% to 0.8% of the total market.

Bill Cawthon grew up in the auto industry in the 1950s. His Dad worked for Chrysler and Bill spent a number of Saturdays down on the plant floor at Dodge Main in Hamtramck. Bill is also the U.S. market correspondent for just-auto.com, a British auto industry publication, and a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which has named the Jeep Grand Cherokee the “SUV of Texas” several times and named the Ram 1500 as the “Truck of Texas” two years running.

Bill has owned five Plymouths (including the only 1962 “Texan”), one Dodge and one Chrysler and is still trying to figure out how to justify a Wrangler. He also has owned at least one of every 1:87 scale model of a Chrysler product. You can reach him directly at (206) 888-7324 or by using the form.
