FCA US reported its 58th consecutive month of year-over-year U.S. sales growth with total deliveries of 145,007 light vehicles, a 14% ahead of January 2014. It was the company’s best January sales since 2007.

“We kicked off 2015 with a 14 percent increase in sales and extended our year-over-year sales streak to 58-consecutive months,” said Reid Bigland, Head of U.S. Sales. “In spite of some tough 2015 comparisons, we remain confident in our ability to post year-over-year sales increases on the back of strong retail demand for our products.”

Jeep reported the largest gain, up 22.9%, but all Chrysler Group brands beat their numbers from last year.

In spite of a slump in sales of the Town & Country, Chrysler brand delivered its best January sales since 2008 and the Chrysler 300 came through with its best January sales in two years.

While sales of the Grand Caravan and Durango were both down, the Challenger and Dart set new January records and the Charger had its best January since 2008.

Jeep brand set a January sales record and racked up its 16th consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains. Jeep has set a sales record every month since November 2013.

The Ram pickup truck posted its 57th-consecutive month of year-over-year sales gains and its best January sales since 1999.

Though it arrived at Ram dealers during the month, the new ProMaster City reported its first 93 sales.

January sales of the Alfa Romeo 4C exceeded the car’s total 2014 volume and the Fiat 500L is back on track with a 19.2% gain over the same month last year.

Ten models set sales records last month: the Jeep Cherokee, Jeep Wrangler, Jeep Patriot, and Jeep Compass each recorded their best ever January sales as did the Chrysler 200, Dodge Dart, Dodge Challenger, Ram ProMaster, Ram Cargo Van and Fiat 500L.

FCA US finished the month with a 101-day supply of inventory (563,575 units). U.S. industry sales figures for January are internally projected at a seasonally adjusted annual rate (SAAR) of 17.0 million units .

Bill Cawthon grew up in the auto industry in the 1950s. His Dad worked for Chrysler and Bill spent a number of Saturdays down on the plant floor at Dodge Main in Hamtramck. Bill is also the U.S. market correspondent for just-auto.com, a British auto industry publication, and a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which has named the Jeep Grand Cherokee the “SUV of Texas” several times and named the Ram 1500 as the “Truck of Texas” two years running.

Bill has owned five Plymouths (including the only 1962 “Texan”), one Dodge and one Chrysler and is still trying to figure out how to justify a Wrangler. He also has owned at least one of every 1:87 scale model of a Chrysler product. You can reach him directly at (206) 888-7324 or by using the form.
