by Bill Cawthon on

A 24% increase in sales of Ram Trucks lifted FCA Canada to a record 64th consecutive month of sales growth.

Canada-Chart-0315

March’s sales total of 25,060 cars and trucks was nearly 2% higher than the tally from March 2014 and according to estimates from Derosier’s Automotive Consulting, it easily blew past Ford and General Motors to keep the top spot in the industry. As of the end of the first quarter of 2015, FCA Canada lead Ford of Canada by nearly 11,000 sales and beat General Motors by over 15,000 sales.

It was an all-time record month for the Ram brand with sales of 10,008 units, a jump of nearly 24% compared to last year. The Ram pickup set a new March sales record with 8,749 sales. This marks the 28th consecutive month of growth for the Ram brand.

Jeep brand had a record March as the Cherokee sets its own March sales record. Jeep has now set a new record for Canadian sales every month since February 2014.

Trucks claimed the lion’s share of sales. 86.9% of all FCA sales in March went to crossovers, SUVs, minivans and pickups.

Bill Cawthon grew up in the auto industry in the 1950s. His Dad worked for Chrysler and Bill spent a number of Saturdays down on the plant floor at Dodge Main in Hamtramck. Bill is also the U.S. market correspondent for just-auto.com, a British auto industry publication, and a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which has named the Jeep Grand Cherokee the “SUV of Texas” several times and named the Ram 1500 as the “Truck of Texas” two years running.

Bill has owned five Plymouths (including the only 1962 “Texan”), one Dodge and one Chrysler and is still trying to figure out how to justify a Wrangler. He also has owned at least one of every 1:87 scale model of a Chrysler product. You can reach him directly at (206) 888-7324 or by using the form.
