Free Dodge van closes hockey promo

by David Zatz on

During Sunday’s live season-finale of Rogers Hometown Hockey, a family in Ontario family was named Canada’s Ultimate Hockey Family, and was given the keys to a new 2015 Dodge Grand Caravan.

David Sullivan said, “The fact that my wife and I just had our first daughter three months ago [means] the timing could not be any more perfect.”

To get a chance at the C$33,000 minivan, Canadian families had to send a photo and caption to explain why they were Canada’s Ultimate Hockey Family. Over 1,500 entries were voted on by Chrysler Canada and Rogers Communications staff.

The Sullivans sent an on-ice photo of 50-plus family membersat their 30th annual family skate, with their caption saying, among other things, that  Denis Sullivan had played hockey until the age of 60. David Sullivan added, “contests like this … continue to grow and strengthen our proudest Canadian tradition.” He also said that the new van would let them sell another one, and set up a “special, once-in-a-lifetime Sullivan Family Skate for 2016.”

The Rogers Hometown Hockey Tour travelled nationally through 25 hockey-centric communities. Each weekend, a free, outdoor festival included a chance to meet local hockey heroes and celebrities, with broadcast viewing parties culminating Sunday with Canadian TV icon Ron MacLean hosting a pre-game show live from the Sportsnet mobile studio. Dodge had on-site display vehicles, free gear, and $50 gas cards for daily winners who could stow hockey sticks, sumo suits, and such into the fold-in-floor seating/storage systems most quickly. There was also a warming area with a 60-inch TV screen.
