Jeep Sales Soar in Great Britain

by Bill Cawthon on

March Jeep sales were up 397% in the United Kingdom as more new Jeeps were delivered in one month than in the entire year of 2011 or 2010.

The announcement came today from Fiat Group Automobiles UK, Ltd.

In March 2014, there were 441 new Jeeps registered in the UK. Last month, that number was 2,190. In calendar year 2011, dealers delivered 2,146 new Jeeps; in 2010 the total was 2,078.

March was Jeep’s 19th consecutive month of sales growth in Great Britain and its second-best month in the brand’s history after August 1997 when there was a different system of registration.

Jeep sales outpaced all other brands on the UK market.

Bill Cawthon grew up in the auto industry in the 1950s. His Dad worked for Chrysler and Bill spent a number of Saturdays down on the plant floor at Dodge Main in Hamtramck. Bill is also the U.S. market correspondent for, a British auto industry publication, and a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which has named the Jeep Grand Cherokee the “SUV of Texas” several times and named the Ram 1500 as the “Truck of Texas” two years running.

Bill has owned five Plymouths (including the only 1962 “Texan”), one Dodge and one Chrysler and is still trying to figure out how to justify a Wrangler. He also has owned at least one of every 1:87 scale model of a Chrysler product. You can reach him directly at (206) 888-7324 or by using the form.
