Hellcat Challenger Gets Widebody Treatment

When the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat was introduced with a 707 horsepower supercharged Hemi, it was a hot topic in the customization world, mostly based on the fact that it is the most powerful American muscle car ever sold to the public. A car with 707 horsepower from the factory has incredible potential for even more performance, but one man went a different route in customizing his Hellcat Challenger – adding a Liberty Walk widebody kit, an air suspension setup, and wider tires to create one of the meanest looking new Challengers I’ve seen.

The owner of this car put together a video showing us the Liberty Walk Hellcat Challenger from different angles and with the ride height set to different levels along with offering up tips and tricks for any other new Challenger owners looking to go the widebody route with their own Mopar muscle car.

There are real world benefits to having a widebody kit on the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. Most notably, as mentioned in the video, the huge flares allow for much wider tires without having them stick out. Wider tires generally allow for better traction while the wider overall stance generally allows for improved handling – which is why so many cars built for road racing have a similar widebody design.

The downside on this Hellcat Challenger is that while it looks incredible with this low, wide stance, it also adds weight to the car, as the owner installed an air ride suspension setup. This makes it possible to adjust the ride height from a setting that makes it so low that it is impossible to drive (which is shown in the video) up to a setting that is high enough to make it easier to work on the 707hp beast. In other words, in this case, the modifications may actually lower performance.

Fortunately for the owner of this white Hellcat Challenger, he also has a Porsche 918 hybrid supercar in the garage, so if he really needs to carve the corners, he owns the production car that set the Nürburgring track record for road cars. That $845,000 supercar also makes it clear that the owner of this new Dodge Challenger has pretty serious money, so he was able to handle the cost of having the fiberglass widebody kit shipped from Japan and installed in the US.

liberty walk hellcat challengerThe owner talked about the modification process in the video, touching on the fact that the front fenders and rear quarter panels had to be cut for the widebody kit to fit, so if he ever wants to remove the package, he will need to have extensive body repairs done.
