Cherokee Liftgate Recall

by David Zatz on

Jeep is recalling 2014-15 Jeep Cherokees to install shields to protect their power liftgate control modules and related components from moisture. The investigation was instigated by Auburn Hills after learning of a fire which revealed that power liftgate control modules in some Cherokees could be inadvertently exposed to water, causing a short circuit.

Jeep is unaware of any related injuries or accidents. The recall only affects 2014 and 2015 Cherokees with power liftgates.

Affected customers include around a hundred thousand in the US, 13,000 in Canada, 2,400 in Mexico, and nearly 50,000 elsewhere, for a total of 164,003.

Any modules with signs of water exposure will be replaced. The company advised owners, in the meantime, to keep their cargo areas dry.
