The Saltillo, México South Engine Plant in Coahuila has become the tenth facility in North America to get a bronze award for World Class Manufacturing, the FCA worldwide quality/cost reduction system.

The plant makes the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6 engine, along with two Trenton, Michigan plants and Mack Avenue, Detroit.  Other winners are Toledo Assembly Complex, Saltillo Truck, Trenton Engine Complex, Warren Stamping, Indiana Transmission I and II, and Toluca Assembly. Windsor Assembly and Dundee Engine have hit silver. None have reached gold yet.

In other manufacturing news, the former Chrysler produced its millionth eight-speed automatic transmission, based on a ZF design. The transmission is used in the company’s large cars, including Challenger, from V6 to Hellcat; Grand Cherokee and Durango; and various Ram trucks.
