Yet another Takata airbag recall

by David Zatz on

Dodge Challengers have been added to the Takata recall list, though so far Chrysler has only one documented case of injury from their airbags and that was under dispute when it was reported.

2009 Challenger SRT8

FCA did not use the specific types of Takata airbag inflators that have been linked to serious injuries in collisions. Therefore, with replacement inflators in short supply industry-wide, it is likely that Challenger owners will be low on the list for replacement — because they are low on the list for risk.

An internal audit showed that the cars were accidentally not included in a May 2015 recall; around 88,346 were sold.

The recall (FCA #R37, NHTSA #15V444000) affects 2008-10 Challengers made from September 19, 2007, to October 29, 2010. Owners are to get notices starting in mid-August with a second notice when parts are available.
