Dodge sets up Woodward Cruise events

Dodge has planned four days of activities for the Woodward Dream Cruise.  Tim Kuniskis, President of Dodge, said, “This is the second year in a row Dodge is pulling out all the stops for the Cruise, and if you thought last year was big, this year is going to be absolutely a ‘can’t miss’ event.”


roadkillROADKILL Nights, “Powered by Dodge,” kicks off the activities at the Pontiac Silverdome on Wednesday, August 12, starting at 4 pm. ROADKILL Nights is a free car festival. In the racing portions, drivers can race their own cars in a grudge-style drag race along a custom-built 1/8-mile track. Races are open to the public, first come, first served, and racers must pre-register and have a helmet.  The feature race will be a match between Gas Monkey Garage’s Richard Rawlings, in a Hellcat-powered 1967 Dodge Dart, and David Freiberger of ROADKILL, in a Hellcat-powered 1968 Dodge Charger.

In addition, over 150 enthusiasts can show off their own vehicles (owners must pre-register). Fifty spaces are reserved for Dodges.

The Enthusiast Network will give away a Hellcat engine to a randomly chosen Dodge owners who drag races their Dodge at the event.

There are also Dodge Thrill Rides with a pro-driver on a closed course, live music, food trucks, free T-shirts and a vendor area.

Dodge Rock City

Dodge Rock City moves to the southwest corner of 13 Mile and Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak on Thursday, August 13, when 120 members of the Motor City Viper Club take over the Dodge space from 6-9 p.m. 50 Dodge Vipers are expected to slither down Woodward Avenue to the car show.

Friday, August 14, is Dodge Owners’ Night with more than 100 Dodge Chargers, Challenger, and LX body owners showing their rides from 6-9 p.m. at the Dodge display at the southwest corner of 13 Mile Road and Woodward Avenue.

On Saturday, Dodge will have activities for the family from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. The brand is showing the 2016 Viper ACR, Charger and Challenger Hellcats, and other cars from the Dart GT up. Again, visitors can take thrill rides with professional drives on a closed course, and ride in the Dodge Challenger track simulator. The band Rockstar will perform three sets at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m.

Visitors can play games and win items including Woodward Dream Cruise Dodge SRT Hellcat and Viper T-shirts, or get a temporary airbrushed tattoo.

Other attractions

  • There will be appearances by WRIF DJs on Friday and Saturday, including the WRIF Rock Girl, handing out WRIF swag on Saturday.
  • There will be relief from the heat at the Dodge “Cool Zone” misting station.
  • David Freiburger and Mike Finnegan, hosts of ROADKILL, will be at the Dodge display Friday night and Saturday during the day, as well as cruising Woodward. They will recreate the Dodge Viper/Challenger/Charger Tug of War at 11:45 a.m., 1:45 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.
