Jeep wiper recall, Ram recall incentives

by David Zatz on

Around 206,000 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees around the world are being recalled because their windshield wipers may fail if activated in dry conditions. Static can take out the control module.  So far, there are no known accidents or injuries.

The fix is installing a ground strap to the module. Customers will be notified when dealers can do this free preventive fix.

In other news, the company has begun to contact customers who can get incentives for completing recalls.  The offers are for owners of certain vehicles that were not fixed/upgraded as of July 24, 2015. Owners can find out if their cars are covered by entering their VIN into, or A status of “open” means the owner is eligible. Finding the VIN is easy — it is on all paperwork for the car, including dealer service and sales records; on a plaque at the base of the windshield, on the driver’s side; and on the driver’s side door jamb.

Affected Jeep Liberty owners can get a $100 Visa prepaid card, also eligible for those who had recalls done after July 23, 2015. Affected Grand Cherokee owners can either get the $100 card or $1,000 towards the purchase of a new vehicle.

The vehicles affected by recalls 13V-038, 13V-527 and 13V-529 (FCA US N08, R16 and N49, respectively), can get either the $100 or trade-in credit of $2,000 on a Ram, or $1,000 on another Chrysler Group vehicle. These vehicles are:

  • 2009 Chrysler Aspen and Dodge Durango made from Jan. 3, 2008, through Dec. 18, 2008
  • 2009-2012 Dodge Ram/Ram 1500 made from Feb. 27, 2008, through June 30, 2009; and from Dec. 1, 2009, through Oct. 20, 2011
  • 2009-2011 Dodge Dakota made from Feb. 27, 2007, through June 30, 2009; and from Dec. 1, 2009, through Sept. 30, 2011
  • 2008-2012 Dodge Ram/Ram 2500 and 3500 4×4 pickups
  • 2008-2012 Dodge Ram/Ram 2500 4×2 Cab Chassis
  • 2008 Dodge Ram/Ram Mega Cab 4×4 pickups
  • 2008-2012 Dodge Ram/Ram 4500 and 5500 trucks made from Feb. 20, 2007, through December 2012

This requires the customer and dealer to work together to get a value for the trade-in. All normal incentives still apply. The program signup starts September 1, 2015, dealer inspections start October 1, 2015, and the program ends around January 4, 2016.
