Allpar contributor on web-radio

by David Zatz on

Internet radio show “America’s Voice for Energy” will feature Allpar contributor, mechanical engineer, and car enthusiast Michael Volkmann.

Show host Marita Noon interviewed Mr. Volkmann along with Sam Kazman (the Competitive Enterprise Institute) and Danny Battaglia (TrueCar).

Mr. Volkmann was asked about corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) and its impact on automakers.  The current long-term requirement is 54.5 mpg, though given various exceptions and classifications, Mr. Volkmann noted that a fleet average of 36 is more probable, and explained the difference between CAFE numbers and window-sticker numbers.

He was also asked about the Chrysler/Fiat merger, and talked about sales of CAFE credits between manufacturers, Tesla, Volkswagen, and the future of the “American muscle car.”

Mr. Volkmann did two 13 minute segments of the one-hour show. The first webcast is at 11 am, Eastern time, October 29, on the right-wing AmericasWebRadio station. After its airing, the show will be available as a podcast.
