Jeep outsells in the EU (again)

by Bill Cawthon on

Jeep was once again the hottest growth brand in Europe as the Renegade led the way to 8,546 registrations, an increase of almost 133% over September 2014.

Year-to-date sales are up 159%, to 65,695, with more than 40,000 of those coming from the smallest Jeep.

Jeep deliveries increased by triple digits in most of the major European markets. Sales were up 252% in Italy, 221%  in Spain, 175% in Great Britain, and 148% in France. Things were a bit more sluggish in Germany with an increase of just  44%.

Jeep’s market share has more than doubled this year, pushing it up to be the second-best-selling brand in the Fiat Chrysler line.

According to figures released this morning by ACEA, the European automobile manufacturer’s association, FCA light vehicle registrations increased by nearly 16% last month, beating overall growth of about 10%. Total Fiat Chrysler registrations beat the market in all the major nations except Germany.

Bill Cawthon grew up in the auto industry in the 1950s. His Dad worked for Chrysler and Bill spent a number of Saturdays down on the plant floor at Dodge Main in Hamtramck. Bill is also the U.S. market correspondent for, a British auto industry publication, and a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which has named the Jeep Grand Cherokee the “SUV of Texas” several times and named the Ram 1500 as the “Truck of Texas” two years running.

Bill has owned five Plymouths (including the only 1962 “Texan”), one Dodge and one Chrysler and is still trying to figure out how to justify a Wrangler. He also has owned at least one of every 1:87 scale model of a Chrysler product. You can reach him directly at (206) 888-7324 or by using the form.
