Trackhawk: cool your jets

by David Zatz on

Word from the Chrysler Tower is that the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, rumored to be available with a detuned Hellcat V8, is not coming in 2016 — even though the name has already been trademarked.

To date, the Trackhawk remains the stuff of rumors and inside tips, and has not been officially announced. Various insiders have said it is a replacement name for the current SRT, and that it will have a Hellcat pushing out less power but possibly through all wheel drive (it could well be a rear drive setup, but detuned to avoid overheating, traction problems, or any number of other issues.)

We still expect a Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk to come — but it may take longer than expected. The delay suggests that, perhaps, the package will be more than a simple rename job — or that it awaits the next generation.
