EU: Jeep, Fiat sales soar (update)

by David Zatz on

Buoyed by a 14% rise in European car sales (as measured by the ACEA), along with troubles at Volkswagen, FCA posted an 18% gain in sales for November.

Within FCA, Jeep was the clear leader, gaining by a stunning 50% — though that was only moving from 5,004 to 7,515 sales. For the year, Jeep sold 80,653 cars, up by 132% from the year-to-date in 2014, largely on the backs of the Renegade and the new Cherokee.

Fiat did well, too, with a 20% sales gain, moving to 51,327 sales in November (up 20% for the year). The Lancia and Chrysler brands fell to 4,512 in November, a 13% drop consistent with the year to date figures, as the brands are phased out of most of the continent.

Alfa Romeo rose by 6%, just enough to pass the remains of Lancia/Chrysler (by 53 cars), as buyers wait for the Giulia.

Overall, the market share for the Fiat brands in November 2015 were 4.6% for Fiat, 0.7% for Jeep (up from 0.5%), and 0.4% for Lancia/Chrysler and Alfa Romeo.

Volkswagen, including Porsche, Audi, SEAT, and Skoda, also rose, but only by 4%, well below the gains of every other major automaker in Europe. Still, Volkswagen’s sales of 275,924 for November alone gave them a 24.5% market share, well above double second-place PSA (Peugeot-Citroen)’s 10.2%.
