FCA fleet sales higher in November

by Bill Cawthon on

Automotive News reported that fleet sales accounted for 26% of Fiat Chrysler’s November deliveries in the US, estimating 130,100 retail sales and 45,900 fleet sales.

That’s the highest percentage in at least two years, and for the first time in many months, the highest percentage among the seven leading automakers.

FCA’s fleet percentage has risen in each of the last three months. After averaging about 21% of total deliveries from November 2014 to August 2015, fleet sales rose to 24% in September and 25.5% in October.

Fiat Chrysler does not break down fleet sales, but judging by turnover of the company’s commercial vehicles, the Ram ProMaster and ProMaster City, it’s a safe bet that there were many rental fleet sales.

In year-to-date fleet sales, FCA US still has the lowest fleet percentage of the Detroit Three automakers.

Bill Cawthon grew up in the auto industry in the 1950s. His Dad worked for Chrysler and Bill spent a number of Saturdays down on the plant floor at Dodge Main in Hamtramck. Bill is also the U.S. market correspondent for, a British auto industry publication, and a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which has named the Jeep Grand Cherokee the “SUV of Texas” several times and named the Ram 1500 as the “Truck of Texas” two years running.

Bill has owned five Plymouths (including the only 1962 “Texan”), one Dodge and one Chrysler and is still trying to figure out how to justify a Wrangler. He also has owned at least one of every 1:87 scale model of a Chrysler product. You can reach him directly at (206) 888-7324 or by using the form.
