FCA US’ sales kick it up a notch (updated)

by Bill Cawthon on

FCA US reported its best November sales in 15 years, delivering 175,974 cars, SUVs, and trucks, 3% up from November 2014. That makes the 68th consecutive month of sales increases, beating the average of analysts’ forecasts.

FCA gained market share among the Detroit Three: GM gained by 2% and Ford by 0.3%. Toyota matched FCA’s 3% rise.

Jeep and Ram posted each posted year-over-year sales improvements; Jeep’s 20% jump put it at the top of the brands.  Chrysler, Dodge, and Fiat sales all dropped, though not enough to counter increased sales from the truck and SUV brands.

The Jeep Cherokee, Compass, Patriot, and Wrangler each recorded their best November sales ever, along with the Ram pickup and Dodge Challenger and Journey. The Jeep Grand Cherokee had its best November since 2003.

Sales of the Chrysler 200 took a hit as the mid-size car segment continues to underperform the market. Crossovers and SUVs claimed a 48% share of total sales, up from 41% a year ago.

Fiat Chrysler sales missed beating their November 2000 mark by about 4.4%. They were slightly less than 10% off the mark set in 1999, which is still Chrysler’s best November on record.

Allpar will post average sale prices, incentives, and inventory later today.

Bill Cawthon grew up in the auto industry in the 1950s. His Dad worked for Chrysler and Bill spent a number of Saturdays down on the plant floor at Dodge Main in Hamtramck. Bill is also the U.S. market correspondent for just-auto.com, a British auto industry publication, and a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which has named the Jeep Grand Cherokee the “SUV of Texas” several times and named the Ram 1500 as the “Truck of Texas” two years running.

Bill has owned five Plymouths (including the only 1962 “Texan”), one Dodge and one Chrysler and is still trying to figure out how to justify a Wrangler. He also has owned at least one of every 1:87 scale model of a Chrysler product. You can reach him directly at (206) 888-7324 or by using the form.
