GM takeover is off the table

by David Zatz on

Reuters quoted Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ CEO, Sergio Marchionne, as saying that a hostile takeover of General Motors was not on the table — and that the company will stick to its internal plan until 2018 or a good, willing partner is found. He said, “We are in relatively decent shape,” and that brands other than Ferrari would not be sold in the near term.

fca+GM+SMThe current plan involves $52 billion in investments over five years, ending in 2018. It states that Alfa Romeo, Jeep, and Maserati will be global brands, but the company has also been working on placing or bolstering Fiat and, to a lesser degree, Chrysler and Dodge in other countries.

An updated plan is to be released in January 2016, taking Chinese changes into account. Bloomberg claimed that the Maserati Alfieri sports coupe will be delayed along the way.
