Full 2015 US sales: still rising (final)

by David Zatz on

Today, FCA US released sales figures for 2015 as a whole. As expected, Jeep set an all-time US sales record.

2015 US sales

Annual sales were up 7% over 2015, an impressive showing. This marked the sixth consecutive year of sales growth for FCA, which had been spiraling downwards when owned by Daimler. December sales were up by a whopping 13% in a surprise finish to the year, after a close shave in November.

Jeep sales rose by 42% for December, with Cherokee, Compass, and Renegade all posting their best monthly sales ever, and Patriot and Wrangler hitting their best Decembers. Both of Ram’s commercial vans and the Dodge Journey hit new monthly highs.

Year to date, Chrysler, Jeep, and Ram rose in US sales. Fiat fell by 8%, due at least partly to weakness in small cars in general; Dodge fell by 10% due mainly to the loss of the Avenger (51,705 in 2014, 1,268 in 2015) and lost Caravan sales (down from 134,152 to 97,141).  Only 676 Vipers rolled off the lot, down from 760 in 2014, despite lower pricing.

Countering the bad news as Dodge, the Dart, Challenger, and Journey all increased substantially in sales, while Charger and Durango rose slightly. For 2016, the Caravan will continue but will face stronger competition from Chrysler’s van; we do not expect any new cars until 2017 at the earliest.

Ram sales rose by 3% for 2015, despite newer Ford F-150s and Chevy Silverados, but December sales slipped by 2% as Ford and Chevrolet battled with incentives and upgrades.
