Pacifica hybrid: 80 MPGe

by David Zatz on

The meaning of the “880” graphic posted by Chrysler last week has become apparent: eight passengers, 80 MPGe (the electric equivalent of 80 mpg).

The eight passenger setup is available with the traditional gasoline engine only. However, due to a 250 pound lighter weight, sophisticated transmission, engine upgrades, and better aerodynamics, the ordinary van should see a substantial mileage boost.

The plug-in hybrid, which only has seven passenger seating (the most any 2016 Chrysler minivan has as well), runs roughly 30 miles under battery before the gasoline engine is needed. It’s the same basic Pentastar V6, altered to use the Atkinson cycle, as Allpar predicted.

Full information on the hybrid and standard powertrains is now posted.
