by David Zatz on

Today, the Mirafiori plant in Turin, Italy, will start making retail  versions of the new Maserati Levante, which will be shown at the Geneva Auto Show tomorrow. Other Maseratis are the Quattroporte, Ghibli, GranTurismo, and GranCabrio.

The Mirafiori factory dates to 1939, and includes both manufacturing and R&D, with nearly 17,000 employees. The Levante, based on the Ghibli which is in turn based on the 300C, uses an air suspension, all-wheel drive, and an 8-speed automatic transmission with gasoline and VM-sourced diesel engine options. It is to be launched in May in Europe.
