NY show: Tough competition for FCA

by David Zatz on

In New York on Wednesday, reporters will see:

  • The new, supercharged, 640-horsepower Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, with a ten speed automatic
  • A new Nissan GT-R.
  • A re-engineered, restyled Toyota Prius.
  • In the “less likely to gain attention” category, the new Acura MDX three-row SUV, Hyundai Genesis, Subaru Impreza, and Honda Civic hatchback, with other launches also likely.

FCA will counter with:

  • The Jeep Trailhawk, a model that was first launched in 2013 but later dropped [this is based on the leaked images];
  • The American-specification Alfa Romeo Giulia, a local version of a car that’s been kicking around for a while (both base and the new Ti); and
  • The Maserati Levante, which debuted in Geneva.

Overall, getting eyeballs for the show may be a bit challenging for FCA, but then, one company can only dominate so many shows.
