Chinese Jeeps debuted

by David Zatz on

Jeep was the first Western company to build a car within China, in a joint venture dubbed Beijing Jeep — and taken over by Mercedes. Under Fiat, then FCA, a new joint venture with GAC is making local Jeeps, today showed off Chinese-manufacture Renegades  Trailhawks and Limiteds at the 2016 Beijing Auto Show.

The company did not reveal much about the cars, other than that they would be sold with either the Fiat 1.4-liter turbo engine or the Chrysler 2.4-liter Tigershark engine. In the massive country, Jeep also sells the Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Wrangler, and Wrangler Unlimited. The image is from a prior story and shows an Italian-made Renegade.
