Durango SRT: it’s coming, but…

by David Zatz on

Photographers have caught unique Dodge Durangos on the road, and their claim that they are the upcoming Durango SRT — a vehicle long sought after by enthusiasts — is likely correct. But is it, as they say, a Hellcat?

The repowered Dodge Durango is, according to reliable source oh2o, carrying the 6.4 liter Hemi V8 “392” engine with up to 485 horsepower.  It is already used in the popular Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, which likely is saving some development costs.

Dodge is the muscle brand, so it’s a logical step, but re-powering a car is an expensive proposition, and the Durango nearing the end of this generation.  That suggests that Dodge is burnishing the Durango name for a new generation, and will not be replaced, merely supplemented, by the Jeep Wagoneer. Exactly what the Durango and Wagoneer names will be attached to is a story for another day.
