New stowing system for Ram, cars, or Jeeps?

by David Zatz on

Tired of seeing endless Stow ’n’ Go variants? Think minivan-style hinged covers aren’t appropriate for Ram or, for that matter, cars and crossovers?  Then you may like this new system, recently patented by FCA in their ongoing search for perfect storage solutions.

Ram storage tub

Joel Craven, Clyde Ney Jr., and Liliana Neag applied for an FCA patent on a storage bin integrated into a vehicle’s floor, with a collar and integrated housing (or tub, if you prefer). A lid can be placed on the upper surface; rotating the led 90° allows for a second, lower storage position (under which you can keep the spare tire). To clarify, look at the image above…

Now, for the big question: why bother? Well, in the first position, where the lid is flush with the floor, you get a flat load floor with some hidden storage. Turn the lid and move to the (lower) second position, and you can fit larger cargo.  In any case, you’re hiding the spare and/or tire inflator kit.

It’s a clever system for making better use of the space in a car, crossover, or, most likely, a Ram pickup.
