Special 2017 Vipers sold out! Another added…

by Patrick Rall on

If you planned to purchase one of the 5 different special edition Dodge Viper packages being offered for the 2017 model year, I hope that you placed your order in the previous two weeks – because they are all sold out. However, you will have one more chance to buy a special edition 2017 Viper later this year when the Dodge Viper Snakeskin ACR goes on sale next month.

When FCA announced last week that 2017 would be the final model year for the 2017 Dodge Viper, the company also announced that they would send the historic American supercar off with 5 special edition packages. Along with the details of these special edition 2017 Vipers came the limited production numbers, with just 206 units planned across the 5 packages.

Some asked whether people would rush to buy limited edition packages of a car that isn’t selling very well. The answer is apparently an emphatic “yes,” as just nine days after the special edition 2017 Viper packages were introduced online, all of those unique supercars were officially sold.

This doesn’t actually mean that it will be impossible to find one of these special edition 2017 Dodge Vipers, but it does mean that you will not be able to walk into a dealership to order one from the factory.

The most popular option was the Viper 1.28 Edition (above), which sold out in just 40 minutes. The VooDoo II Edition took about two hours on Friday to sell out, while the Snakeskin Edition GTC and the GTS-R Commemorative Edition each took two days to completely sell out. Finally, the Dodge Dealers Edition ACR — sold only by two dealers — took about five days to sell out, meaning that the last car was spoken for sometime yesterday or today.

“From just 40 minutes to five days, the 25th Anniversary special-edition Dodge Vipers sold out incredibly fast,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America. “Our customers are asking, so we’re adding one more special edition — the Dodge Viper Snakeskin ACR.”

In case you missed our first piece detailing the special edition 2017 Dodge Vipers, below is a list of the packages and their production numbers – all of which are formally spoken for by dealerships around the country.

  • Dodge Viper GTS-R Commemorative Edition ACR (Below)– 100 cars
  • Dodge Viper 1:28 Edition ACR – 28 cars
  • Dodge Viper VoooDoo II Edition ACR – 31 cars
  • Dodge Viper Snakeskin Edition GTC – 25 cars
  • Dodge Dealer Edition Viper ACR – 22 cars

If you didn’t place an order in advance for one of these packages and you still want to get one, top-selling dealers Roanoke Dodge and Tomball Dodge are likely your best bet.

The full customization option of the 2017 Viper GTS also allows everyone to build a car to their own whims.

2017 Dodge Viper Snakeskin Edition ACR

After a great deal of interest in a Viper that offered the look of the Snakeskin Edition GTC with the performance of the ACR, Dodge has decided to offer one more special edition package for 2017 – the Snakeskin Edition ACR.

This package includes the exterior paint and the stripes of the Snakeskin Edition GTC, but it includes all of the performance bits of the American Club Racer package, including the ACR interior, the Extreme Aero Package, the carbon ceramic brakes, a unique dash plaque and the personalized car cover.

As many as 31 will be built; these cars will officially go on sale in the middle of July.
