Cruise-In at Petty’s Garage

The Petty’s Garage Car Show, a special cruise-in event, is scheduled for Friday, September 30 and Saturday, October 1 at the Petty Level Cross compound, 311 Branson Mill Road in Randleman, North Carolina.

The event is presented by the Automotive Lift Institute (ALI), the lift manufacturers’ trade association.

The evening of September 30 there will be a VIP cookout on the grounds of Reverie Place, Richard Petty’s ranch. Tickets for the cookout are $25 per person for ages 11 and up and just 200 tickets are available.

On Saturday, Petty’s Garage gates will open at 8:00 AM on Saturday and remain open until 1:00 PM. The Richard Petty Museum will open at 9:00 AM. The Museum features trophies, cars and memorabilia from the King’s legendary NASCAR career. Younger visitors will enjoy a special exhibit with Mr. and Mrs. The King and the Hudson Hornet from the movie, Cars. There is no admission charge for the Saturday events.

According to ALI president Bob O’Gorman all makes, models and ages of cars are welcome. There is no pre-registration required and no charge to participate. The first 200 show cars to arrive will be eligible for the People’s Choice Award. Judging runs until 11:00 AM.

Bill Cawthon grew up in the auto industry in the 1950s. His Dad worked for Chrysler and Bill spent a number of Saturdays down on the plant floor at Dodge Main in Hamtramck. Bill is also the U.S. market correspondent for just-auto.com, a British auto industry publication, and a member of the Texas Auto Writers Association, which has named the Jeep Grand Cherokee the “SUV of Texas” several times and named the Ram 1500 as the “Truck of Texas” two years running.

Bill has owned five Plymouths (including the only 1962 “Texan”), one Dodge and one Chrysler and is still trying to figure out how to justify a Wrangler.
