Hellcat X found a home

by David Zatz on

The 2015 Dodge Challenger Hellcat X, shown here with a 1970 Challenger R/T, was a one-off car built for a charity raffle.

Part of the annual Dream Giveaway, the car was part of a successful effort to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for charitable groups.  To make it go, Walsh Motorsports added a pair of 62mm turbos under the car, boosting output to 805 horsepower and 800lb-ft of torque.

The winner of the car was seventy-one year old Dennis Daly, from Folsom, California, who got both the Hellcat X and a restored 1970 Dodge Challenger 440 R/T, along with $40,000 to pay the taxes.

Mr. Daly, a longtime Dream Giveaway supporter, entered the 2015 Challenger Dream Giveaway on five separate occasions with an aggregate donation of $110. “If I can do something to help people then I am all for it,” he said.  When he got the call, “I was just in complete shock. Out of everyone who made a donation, I don’t know how I got so lucky. After 71 years of living I have never won anything in my life but now it has finally happened!”

Mr. Daly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963-1967. He often competed in quarter-mile drag races at Sacramento Raceway in Sacramento, California. Mr. Daly will attend the award ceremony in Clearwater, Florida, on July 8, 2016, with his family at his side.
