Which Jeeps are hits in Europe?

by David Zatz on

Jeep sells a full line in Europe, but it’s been clear that its skyrocketing popularity has been entirely due to the Renegade. What’s the status of the other models?

The Compass, once a decent seller, has fallen to 161 sales for January-May 2016, according to Automotive News Europe. What’s more, it didn’t do much better last year, with just 349 sold. The Renegade, in contrast, moved from 22,132 in Jan-May 2015 to 33,322 this year.

The next best seller after the Renegade was the Grand Cherokee,  perennially popular within its niche, with 5,488 sales this year, rough the same as the same period last year. However, the Cherokee’s sales have fallen from nearly six thousand last year to just 4,488 so far this year.

The ultimate Jeep, the Wrangler, sat at 2,227 year to date in 2015; it’s fallen to 1,556 this year.

There were  seven other Jeep sales recorded. Overall, though, it looks as though Jeep’s taken a serious sales hit outside of the Renegade, which carried the brand.

As for other Chrysler vehicles, so far this year the company sold 65 Voyager minivans (down from 1,251 last year), 21 Thema/300Cs, and 271 Dodges (Dodge is up from 197 last year).  In contrast, FCA sold 2,635 Maseratis (nearly all of them Ghiblis), 34,457 Lancias (nearly all Ypsilons), 26,333 Alfa Romeos (mostly Giuliettas), and 341,647 Fiats.

For those who were wondering, Fiat sales are led by the Panda (92,042), followed by the 500 (84,309). After that, the 500X and 500L come in much lower (49,379 and 40,197 respectively), and then the only other Fiat with over 20,000 sales is the Punto with 30,973.
