Illustrated 2017 Dodge colors (updated)

by David Zatz on

Dodge has released its paint hues for the 2017 model year, somewhat after telling about its new cars.  The company is renaming some shades to fit 1960s-70s names, as well.

Green Go and Yellow Jacket have been revived along with Go Mango; Dodge has previously made cars in Plum Crazy and Sublime.  Dodge colors for 2017 will include Redline 2K, Blu By You, Redline 3K, and Bomber Brown.

Some colors are fairly prosaic in appearance, but have imposing names: Maximum Steel Metallic, Stout Brown, White Knuckle, Destroyer Gray, Vice White, Bruiser Gray.

Some are puzzling: Granite, White Noise, Billet, and the three blacks — Pitch, DB, and Onyx. And what exactly is “Blood Orange?”

Some sound stylish and descriptive enough — Octane Red, Yellow Jacket, TorRed, Olive Green, Green Go. Go Mango returns, and Contusion Blue is an existing blue with a harsher name.

One thing is clear: if you want a bright color other than red an white, get a Charger or Challenger. The two cars have the same bright range of colors, while the SUVs are much duller. The Durango, shown above, comes in your choice of bright or dark red — and then it’s all shades of gray, and one dark blue. You even get two blacks.

journey colors

The Journey is somewhat brighter, with a red, an orange, and then — yes, a dark blue, olive green, and white-to-black shades.

The Dodge Caravan, in its final model year, has a very limited palette,  suiting its position as the value leader. Two grays, white, black, dark blue, and dark red — but then, the demand for lime green minivans is likely quite small.

If you think the current Challengers are colorful, though, compare them with the inspiration for these ads (provided by Suzq044):
