Future Jeep spied in NJ – which C is it?

Jeep Compass?

New Jersey is pretty far from the usual testing grounds, but here’s what could be a 2018 Jeep Compass or next-generation Cherokee. The engine and exhaust were impossible to discern above other traffic noises.

The question now becomes, was this a Compass being driven to nearby journalists and reviewers, or simply following a semi-random testing route? And is this a Compass, or the next generation Cherokee, made to look more normal? It seems rather tall to be a Compass, without as much roof curving; and the tail-lights don’t seem to be those of the Compass shown in Brazil (see below).

What are your thoughts?

Note: forum members believe it is indeed a Compass. One person said, “You underestimated the size of the Compass” and that could be true. This car could also be a test mule using nonstandard tail-lights and deceptive coverings to make it appear different from the shape above… or it could indeed by a new Cherokee.
