Chinese Compass coming soon

by David Zatz on

The new Jeep Compass was launched in the United States yesterday, and will soon appear in China. The third FCA vehicle to be launched in the Guangzhou joint-venture plant this year, the Compass is to make its entrance at the Auto Guangzhou show, which begins tomorrow.

The Chinese version is likely to have a choice of Fiat diesels and Chrysler four-cylinder gasoline engines, with the same transmissions sold in the United States. It will probably not be exported outside of China, with domestic demand likely to soak up production.

Like Jeep Compass is expected to be a sales leader for the brand outside North America, along with the popular Renegade. European sales are likely to expand quite a bit with the launch of the new crossovers, but China and India could be more important in the long run.
