The Chinese Compass is here

by David Zatz on

As reported on Allpar last week, the new Jeep Compass was launched in China at the Guangzhou Auto Show. It’s the third new FCA vehicle, and the second Jeep, to enter production at the Chinese joint-venture plant this year.

The Chinese version is the only one to get a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, coupled with Fiat’s 1.4 liter turbo engine. Buyers can also choose the Chrysler 2.4 liter engine and nine speed automatic. Sales begin in early 2017.

The Compass will probably not be exported outside of China, with domestic demand likely to soak up production. India is likely to produce the Compass for other countries in the region, and some cars may be exported from the United States.

The Jeep Compass should be a sales leader for the brand in China, India, Australia, and Europe, along with the Renegade.
