100 WayMo Pacificas delivered

by David Zatz on

The Google self-driving car project, spun off as Waymo, is now outfitting a hundred Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans with self-driving equipment. To celebrate, Waymo and FCA revealed the first official images of the self-driving Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid vehicle.

The project required changes to the minivan’s electrical, powertrain, chassis and structural systems. Waymo’s CEO, John Krafcik, wrote, “FCA’s product development and manufacturing teams have been agile partners, enabling us to go from program kickoff to full vehicle assembly in just six months.”

The teams were brought together in southeastern Michigan, with  testing at the Chelsea and Arizona Proving Grounds, as well as Waymo test sites in California.

Over 90% of the 1.2 million road deaths per year are caused by human error, according to the companies.
