Chrysler to open a Portal?

by David Zatz on

Science fiction fans and 1990s web-site tycoons, watch out: Fiat Chrysler plans to open a Portal.

Steven St. Laurent pointed out that FCA has claimed the trademark Portal, in the category of “Motor vehicles, namely, passenger automobiles, their structural parts, trim and badges.”

portal - journey crossover replacement

Portal could simply be a trim level, though that seems unlikely — Pacifica SXT, Limited, and Portal?

There are numerous new Chryslers set for launch in the next three years, but the most likely candidates are a Chrysler replacement for the Dodge Journey, and the famed “RA” minivan-based crossover, set to confuse those who just started shopping for a replacement for their last (2004-08) minivan-based crossover.  It’s likely that Chrysler has abandoned its pretensions to a numbers-and-letters naming system, outside of the 300 series.

The Portal name was submitted on December 6.
