Mopar has revealed plans to increase support for NHRA Sportsman racers during the 2017 season, including learning from two factory-sponsored teams.

Dodge and Mopar engineers will “go back to the future” and attend each of the 24 NHRA national events to provide technical advice and guidance to amateur Sportsman racers, who often compete with little or no sponsorship.

The company will back three Dodge Challenger Drag Pak cars, two at Joe Welch Racing (one driven by Welch, and one by an NHRA star not yet named) and one driven by 2015 Stock Eliminator world champion Kevin Helms, and owned by Jeff Teuton.  The three cars will be used to gather data for the Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak program, which has produced 260 factory-built race cars since 2008.

Dodge will also have a display next to the Mopar trailer on the NHRA Manufacturers Midway at 15 national NHRA events.

The “Magneti Marelli Offered by Mopar Drag Pak Rewards” program will give payouts to the Top 20 Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak drivers in points, which are awarded for entries, runner-up finishes, and victories. Rewards will also be offered for a Factory Stock Showdown NHRA National event win and a Stock Eliminator or Super Stock World Championship claimed by a Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak competitor.

The rewards program will begin at the February Winternationals in Pomona, California.  More information will be shared via the twice-monthly “Mopar Speed” e-newsletter early next year.

Mopar-powered Sportsman racers can also tap the long-running Mopar Contingency Program, which drivers who compete with specified parts and carry the Mopar Contingency decal on their racing car.

The Mopar HEMI Challenge and the Mopar Sportsman Appreciation Night will also continue. The HEMI Challenge will return to Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Raceway for its 17th year, featuring classic muscle cars. The Mopar Sportsman Appreciation Night at the U.S. Nationals will have free food, drinks, tech seminars, Q&A sessions, and giveaways for its brand ambassadors.

The Tom Hoover Sportsman Challenge will continue to recognize the outstanding Mopar Sportsman racer with the most points in Stock or Super Stock Class racing, giving them a cash award and a custom trophy.
